How to Compare Pack Size, Piece Count and Price
Product pages can show a total pack amount, an amount per item, a piece count, several variations and a price range at the same time. Comparing the same four fields on every product helps prevent accidental comparisons between different pack sizes.
Use the selected variation as the starting point
A product title can describe a family of options, while the variation selector determines the exact pack placed in the cart. Confirm the selected variation, the displayed price, the number of items and the stock message before ordering.
When a product has several strengths or pack formats, compare like with like. A seven-piece pack should not be compared directly with a fifteen-piece bottle merely because both appear on the same page.
Four figures to compare
| Figure | What it means | Check before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Per-item amount | The labelled amount in one piece or unit. | Confirm that the page states this explicitly rather than calculating it from appearance. |
| Total pack amount | The labelled amount across the complete pack. | Check whether it applies to the selected variation. |
| Piece count | The number of individual items in the pack. | Check whether every piece is intended to be equal in size. |
| Price | The current selling price for the selected option. | Confirm whether the page displays a range, sale price or ex-VAT amount. |
Compare unit price carefully
Dividing the price by the piece count can help compare pack formats, but it does not replace the label. Products may differ in ingredients, format, packaging, storage requirements and per-item information.
For a variable product, use the price of the selected option rather than the lowest figure in a displayed price range.
